Love Life the Most

Small town Iowa girl living in big town Phoenix, AZ. Left my town of 5,000 for Arizona State University in 2005...and haven't looked back since! Two years ago I started dating the man of my dreams. He got down on one knee, I cried & said yes!

On the eve of Thanksgiving and the busiest night of the year for bars…I must tell the story of how Turkey Baster Shots began!

Several years ago (2007), when I was still in college (yes it is painful that time frame describes my college years) there was an ASU football game near Thanksgiving. Can’t remember if it was the day of or on Black Friday. The game was on Thanksgiving!

IRREGARDLESS ;)

We were pre-gaming (or was it post-gaming?) at my friend John’s apartment right by the stadium. John seriously had the best place for day of game drinking!!! Anyway my brother and sister were with me and we were having fun. Everyone was getting pretty toasty and my brother found the perfect opportunity to get us even drunker!

My brother, sister, John & I were all out on the patio and Al started telling John about celebrating Thanksgiving when he was in college. He told him how EVERY YEAR they did turkey baster shots! John, being the amazing drunk he always is, was immediately interested and basically ran to the kitchen to get the turkey baster. My sister & I looked at Al and said “Really?” He scoffed and so “NO! But let’s go with it!!!”

We march into the kitchen behind John & Al and John has the turkey baster in his hand. Al instructs him to take out alcohol and pour it in a shot glass. Then Al took the turkey baster shot & sucked up John’s booze of choice.

I look around and there’s approximately 10 of us huddle in the kitchen watching this unfold. The next thing my brother tells John to “Open your mouth wide & tilt your head back. I’m going to squirt it in your mouth. It may dribble a little bit.” (well something to that effect…very funny!)

John tilts back & took it like a champ. The next thing I know the ten people who were huddled around, are now in a proper line waiting for it to be their turn! And the Thanksgiving Tukery Baster Shot is now a tradition! Please—-spread to your family….but don’t take credit (cough Eric cough).

John center! Jamil is showing off the infamous Turkey Baster!

Jamil is lucky enough to get the shot from the creator himself, Al!

Sisters starting a family tradition!

Despite her grossed out face, Ann continues the tradition each year!

This kid took so many Turkey Baster shots this day that the next year he actually thought he came up with the idea! haha It’s all good though because he’s working hard spreading the tradition in California one Thanksgiving at a time!

Hand up in case Matty spills :)

Last year we resumed the tradition! Gobble Gobble.

This year we will all be in separate states, but don’t worry—-the tradition will continue! And I hope you spread the liquid tradition with your friends and loved ones!

Happy Thanksgiving Turkey Baster Shot Day!
